Volcanoes & Blacksand

Locations
Reynisfjara was formed due to the volcanic activity in the area during the last few centuries. Each time the dangerous Katla volcano erupted, the lava reached the North Atlantic Ocean. Once lava and sea get in contact with each other, lava instantly cools down, hardens and becomes black.

Iceland's dramatic black sand beaches were shaped by volcanic eruptions over centuries and offer striking contrast to the ocean’s waves. The Katla volcano, one of Iceland’s most powerful, has played a role in shaping some unique landscape, making it an ideal location for fantasy, sci-fi, and post-apocalyptic settings.
